Pre-Purchase Condition Survey
The
Pre-Purchase Condition Survey is the most common
survey undertaken by a Yacht and Small Craft Surveyor.
A potential client would have found a suitable boat,
paid a percentage of the asking price as a deposit
and the sale would have been agreed subject to survey.
The purpose of the survey is, therefore, to determine the condition
of the vessel, listing any defects the vessel may have before
the sale is closed. The results of the survey would then assure
the client that the vessel is in good order and worth the asking
price or, alternatively, could be used as a negotiating tool
in the event of costly repairs needing to be done. The vessel may also be in
such a state of disrepair that the client may choose to walk away from the
sale losing only his deposit. The minimum areas covered by a Pre-Purchase
Condition Survey are shown below:

Whatever the outcome, this type of survey is a must for the
potential buyer.
The results of the survey are recorded and passed on to the client, in total
confidence, in the form of an easy to read, photo-filled, professionally
bound document. A CD-ROM containing an electronic copy of the
report and all photographs taken during the survey is also
available on request.
.
JMS are also willing to carry out Insurance Surveys, Damage Surveys
and Hull and Bulkhead Surveys. Full details of these services can
be found on their website www.jmsmarine.co.uk.
